A Message from the Commodore
Dear
Club Members:
One of the great things about fishing is that there is always
something new to learn. Each season teaches us lessons that
we hope will improve our methods as well as our ability to
make sure we're in the right place at the right time when
the bite turns on.
It won't be long before we have the opportunity to apply the
techniques we learned during the past year as we head into
what promises to be a memorable 2008 season. Our committees
have been hard at work planning the tournament schedule and
organizing the social events. It all gets started with the
Bluefish Tournament and the Kickoff Banquet at the Flanders
Hotel on Memorial Day weekend. From there we look forward
to your participation in a series of inshore and offshore
tournaments that run throughout the summer and conclude with
the Striper Tournament in November.
I'd like to take this opportunity to encourage everyone to
keep in mind that ,in addition to the Club tournaments, there
are prize categories for the first, second, and third heaviest
fish for fifteen different species caught anytime throughout
the season. Also up for grabs are ten other awards that you'll
find listed in the club book and include the Water Witch Junior
Angler Award for anglers twelve years of age or younger and
the Surf Fish Award which rarely receives an entry. So remember
to weigh in your catch...it just might be a winner!
One goal for the 2008 season is to increase the Club's visibility,
so that anglers who might have an interest in our tournaments
and in attending the social events become aware of what the
Club has to offer. I want to encourage all members to come
to the social events this summer and bring friends who share
your passion for fishing. These events provide a great opportunity
to meet other members, enjoy the camaraderie, and trade fishing
stories. I've found that it amazing as to how much more successful
you can become as a result of conversations with other anglers.
Finally, I would like to thank everyone involved with the
committees for all the work they've been doing as we prepare
for the upcoming season. It's a real pleasure to be part of
a group that has so much energy and enthusiasm. We certainly
welcome any members who would like to become involved with
one of the committees. Please feel free to give me a call
if you have an interest.
I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable 2008 season.
Sincerely,
Jack Davidson
