Dear Anglers:
The Ocean City Marlin & Tuna Club invites you to join us
for the 32nd Annual Overnight Billfish Tournament. Boats will
compete for over $50,000 in cash and prizes plus additional
Calcutta winnings, which totaled over $35,000 in 2008. This
event will start Sunday August 9th, 2009 and run through Saturday
August 15th, 2009.
We will again offer a flexible format, allowing boats to leave
any inlet between and including Barnaget Inlet south to Cape
May, NJ. This year the Captains Meeting / Kickoff Dinner will
take place at the Ocean City Yacht Club and will feature an
open bar. Fishing will be Captain’s choice of one of the
five following nights after the Captains Meeting. Boats may
leave anytime after 5:00 AM, fishing from 8:00 AM until 11:00
AM the following morning, at which time fishing will cease.
The weigh-in will be held at Sunday Harbor in Ocean City between
2nd & 3rd Streets. (Look for the purple house.) The scales
will be open at 1:00 PM and will close at 4:00 PM each day.
This is an exciting time so have your friends and family come
down to see your catch!
The Tournament will come to a close on Saturday August 15th
with an Awards Barbeque and Cocktail Party at The Harbor House,
2nd and Bay Ave. Ocean City, NJ. Don’t miss the fun and
excitement! Return your registration without delay to take advantage
of the early entry discount.
If you have any questions, please
contact Tournament Chairman Brian Logue at (609) 827-0820 or

Rules and Regulations
1. All boats must be represented at the Captain’s
meeting to be held at
the Ocean City Yacht Club, Sunday, August 9, 2009 at 6:00 PM.
2. *Revised. This year we ask that you report
the day you are fishing* (rather than a nonfishing day as required in past years). You
must do this by calling and leaving a message for Brian Logue at (609) 827-0820 or Jack Davidson at (856) 982-5250. You may also report a fishing day by emailing Brian Logue at blogue@sjmarina.com. Please report your fishing day the morning of your departure or the evening prior to your departure. This is a Captain’s
choice format with no weather committee. The crew members of each
individual boat will be solely responsible for the decision as
to which
day to fish. The OCMTC assumes no liability or responsibility
for any
damage or loss.
3. Boats may leave any inlet from Barnegat Inlet to Cape
May after 5:00
AM. Fishing times are 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM the following day. The
fishing boundary is the Hudson Canyon to the Washington Canyon.
4. All Billfish must be reported to a committee boat
at the time of
release. Please give your boat name and number. If you cannot
raise a
committee boat, you must report your release to another boat fishing
this tournament.
5. Any fish hooked prior to 11:00 AM may be played until
boated or
released, but the hook-up must be reported to a committee boat
before
11:00 AM. The boat must reach the weigh dock by 4:00 PM.
6. All boats must make weigh-in from 1:00 to 4:00 PM
on the day you
return. You may not transfer your fish to another boat or weigh
in
fish the following day. All boats weighing fish must return via
Great
Egg Inlet directly to the weigh-in dock in order to qualify for
prize
consideration. However, boats with no fish to weigh may drive
their
release form to the weigh dock provided the form is received during
the official weigh-in hours on the day of the boats return.
7. Weigh-in is at SUNDAY HARBOR in Ocean City, between
2nd and
3rd streets. (Look for the PURPLE HOUSE.). Please have your catch
and release form completed and signed at the weigh dock. All weights
at the weigh dock will be considered official.
8. In the event of a tie in the Billfish release category,
the winner will be
the boat with the earliest time of release of the last Billfish.
9. Boated Billfish with the exception of Swordfish do
not count in this
tournament.
10. Junior anglers are those 16 years of age prior to
the start of the
tournament.
11. In the event of a tie in a cash prize category, the
prize money will be
equally divided among those tying.
12. We will use channel 72 VHF.
13. Charter boats are permitted.
14. It is the captain’s and angler’s responsibility
to know and obey all
Federal and State regulations including current NMFS circle hook
requirements.
15. IGFA rules apply - no restriction on weight class
of tackle. The
tournament chairman and committee retain the sole authority for
interpreting and implementing the IGFA rules.
16. Any protests must be submitted in writing to the
tournament
chairman or weigh master on the day of the alleged infraction.
The
chairman, co-chairman and weigh masters shall serve as judges
and
their decision will be final. Polygraph examination may be required
of
winning crews.
